Horror is one of cinema’s genres that have, in its critical annals, been meted out step-motherly treatment in the past.  Never acknowledged as a genre as serious as say, a drama, it has been relegated to the realm of B-grade and to the crass.

It has been perceived as the genre most devoted to the most urgently and instantly gratifying effects of cinema, and one without much artistic merit. Along with comedy, an analysis of horror has mostly been undertaken to appreciate it in the context of these categorical responses that it generates within its audiences – and not the cinematic conventions that have been applied to evoke them. As such, it has been celebrated most often as cinema’s contribution to the prosperity of pop-art; the area reserved not for the indulgence of the cerebral, but for the thrill of the heart.

With its latest programming effort, Cinedarbaar is making an attempt to re-evaluate the popular standing of horror as the genre for the fanboys. With an extensive study into the various conventions of the horror genre, and also an identification of the horror genre as the most exhaustive encapsulation of the era in which it is produced  – without taking away any of the attached adrenaline rush of a good horror film, Cinedarbaar is organising its latest event called ‘Horror Cine Experience’ at Instituto Cervantes or the Spanish Culture Center from the 25th to the 27th of Feb 2010 with media partners in the form of Radio Noida and Buzzintown.

In view of the extensive sub-genres within the rather broadly defined Horror film genre, Cinedarbaar has made an effort to program various different types of horror films – from the zombie black and white classic Night of the Living Dead to the modern docu-fiction horror of REC; and from the proverbial inclusion vampire film Let the Right One In to the psycho-thriller The Others.

The event has been organised in collaboration with Instituto Cervantes, and has its media partners in the form of Radio Noida and BatchBuzz.
